Wote · Makueni County

Your little palace in Wote.

A small hotel with the doors left open to the garden. Quiet mornings, warm evenings, and rooms kept the way you would keep your own.

Welcome to Shali

A small hotel, kept the way a home is kept.

A handful of rooms, a garden full of bamboo, and people who notice when you have had a long day. We made Shali for guests who would rather feel looked after than impressed.

The Hotel

Small by design.
Personal by nature.

Shali began with a simple thought: Wote deserved somewhere that felt genuinely cared for, without asking a fortune for the privilege.

So we kept it small. A smaller hotel is a quieter one, and a quieter one lets us pay attention to the things that actually matter — clean rooms, hot water, a warm welcome, and enough space between guests that you never feel crowded.

Whether you are here for work, with family, or simply passing through Makueni, you get the same thing: somewhere calm to put your bag down.

The Rooms

Two rooms. Both kept beautifully.

We only have a handful of rooms, which is rather the point — it means each one gets looked after properly.

The Experience

The best part of Shali is the part where nothing happens.

Wote, Makueni County

Outside

Somewhere to sit and do nothing.

There is a particular pleasure in a hotel that is not busy. Take a chair under the bamboo, let the afternoon go by, and be the only person out there.

In the evening the gazebos are the best seat in Wote — quiet enough for a phone call home, and comfortable enough that you will not make it.

Breakfast served at Shali Hotel
Dining

Breakfast, the Kenyan way.

Nothing fussy. A proper Kenyan breakfast to start the day, and a short menu of familiar dishes for the rest of it — cooked in our own kitchen and eaten somewhere unhurried.

Our kitchen cooks for house guests only, which is why it never feels like a restaurant.
